Bethnal Green Wedding Photography
The church is actually ‘St Peter with St Thomas Bethnal Green. The two parishes were combined after WW2 when the area was depopulated. St Thomas Bethnal Green had suffered damage in the bombing and was pulled down in the 1950s. No trace of the church, Vicarage or Sunday School building remain. However the WW1 memorials from St Thomas were taken and joined with the war memorial at St Peter’s.
All there is on the memorials of both churches is a list of names. In 2014 a volunteer archivist, Philippa Atkinson, completed a remarkable work of research on these memorials in order to uncover the person behind the name. We are now seeking to trace any ancestors of these men for photographic material or other personal insights. This work will take place throughout the centenary of ‘The Great War
